Kawartha Lakes

Stairs and floors for the lake country.

Alexander works out of the Coboconk office, covering Coboconk, Lindsay and cottage properties across the Kawartha Lakes. A good share of that work is arranged while the owners are a couple of hours down the road.

What the work looks like here

Kawartha Lakes is not the same job as everywhere else.

01

A building that sits unheated moves

A cottage that goes cold and damp from November to April swings much further in humidity than a heated house, and the floor has to be picked and fitted for that. Sometimes the honest answer is vinyl plank rather than hardwood; sometimes it is hardwood, acclimated properly and left the room it needs. That is a decision worth making before the material is bought.

02

Most of it gets decided by phone

You are often not there. Measurements, photos of what is actually on site, material options and progress all move by phone and message, and arranging access while you are away is a normal part of the job rather than a favour.

03

Cottage staircases are usually originals

Steep runs, tight turns up to a loft, open risers and a handrail that was clearly an afterthought. They can be recapped, rebuilt, or simply made safe enough to carry a grandchild down, but they are rarely a catalogue job, which is why they get measured in person.

What Alexander does in Kawartha Lakes

Staircase installation

Treads, risers, railings and finishing details aligned to the rest of the home. It is the detail guests notice first.

  • Full staircase rebuilds & recaps
  • Hardwood treads over existing stairs
  • Railings, spindles & posts

Floor installation

Hardwearing surfaces fitted cleanly for living spaces, kitchens, bedrooms, entries and basements.

  • Hardwood, laminate & vinyl plank
  • Any flooring type except tile
  • Subfloor prep, levelling & finishing

Staircase refinishing & recolouring

An existing staircase sanded back and brought up new again, in the same tone or a custom colour you choose.

  • Full sand-and-refinish, or a fresh recoat
  • Matched to a custom colour you pick
  • Tread repairs and squeak fixes

Photographs of finished staircases and floors are on the main gallery. They are not sorted by town, so nothing there is labelled as a Kawartha Lakes job unless it is.

Homeowner reviews

People who let Alexander into their homes.

★★★★★

“I'd like to leave a review and a heartfelt recommendation for TriCity Flooring and Stairs. Alexander is a true professional! He repaired two of our staircases and installed laminate flooring in the basement, and we were extremely pleased with his work. Everything was completed with quality, on time, and with great attention to detail. Each stage was discussed clearly in advance, with no unexpected surprises. If you're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented specialist, Alexander is the best choice. We recommend him wholeheartedly!”

“Alexander did an excellent job with our laminate flooring installation. The first time he came by our home, we were impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He was able to make recommendations on flooring and where to purchase from. He was efficient and got the job done within the time promised, kept his work area neat and tidy, and never left any messes behind. What's more, he helped us stay on budget! We would highly recommend Alexander from Tricity to anyone.”

Asked in Kawartha Lakes

Answers before you book.

Can the work happen while we are not at the cottage?

Yes, and it often does. Alexander measures and quotes on a visit you are there for, or by arrangement, then works to the fixed written price while you are away and sends photos as it goes. Because the quote is fixed before anything starts, nothing about the price changes while you cannot see the job.

Should I put hardwood in a cottage that is unheated all winter?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no, and anyone who answers that without seeing the building is guessing. It depends on whether the place is heated at all over winter, how damp it gets, and what is under the floor. Waterproof vinyl plank handles a hard seasonal swing without complaint; hardwood can work well in a cottage that stays above freezing, if it is acclimated and fitted with the movement in mind. Alexander will give you a straight recommendation at the quote, including when the cheaper material is the right one.

Do you serve Lindsay as well as the lakes?

Yes. The Coboconk office covers Coboconk, Lindsay and cottage properties across the Kawartha Lakes. Waterloo Region is served from the Kitchener office, so a job at either end gets someone based nearby rather than a three-hour drive.
